Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between digital game addiction and competitive styles of preschool children. For this purpose, 337 children and 27 teachers attending public and private pre-school education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the province of Kayseri in the 2021-2022 academic year were included. Research for children; gender, age, number of siblings, age of mother and father, education level of mother and father, employment status of mother and father. In the study, the Computer Game Addiction Scale, which was started to be used by Horzum, Ayas and Çakır-Balta in 2008, and the Preschool Competitiveness Scales, which were adapted into Turkish by Uyanık Balat, Akman and Arslan Çiftçi in 2017, were used. In the study, the skewness and kurtosis values of the scale scores were examined for the normality test of the scale scores. With the skewness and kurtosis values meeting the desired reference range, independent student t-test was used in paired group analysis, Oneway ANOVA test was used in analysis of more than two groups, and Pearson correlation tests were used to determine the relationship between scale scores. Statistical significance level was taken as p<0.05 in all tests. As a result of the study, it was determined that male students had higher conservation of dominance hierarchy (p=0.024) and willingness (p=0.002) scale scores compared to female students. Students in the 4-year-old group had lower scale scores for others-oriented competition (p=0.009), task-oriented competition (p=0.007), willingness (p=0.016) and frustration (p=0.002) scale scores compared to the students in the 5 and 6 age group. scores were found. The competition scale scores for the task of the students whose mothers were working were found to be higher (p=0.002). It was determined that the children whose fathers were working had higher scores on competition focused on others (p=0.017), hierarchy of dominance conservation (p=0.013) and frustration (p=0.013).
