Investigation of parents' views on the effects of the use of information communication technologies by children aged 4-6 in preschool education on their academic achievement and social lives: The sample of Batman province

In this study, it is aimed to analyse parents' views on the effects of their 4-6- year- old children's using information and communication technologies on their learning achievement and social life. In this research, the survey method is used which is one of the descriptive research methods and SPSS-22 statistical package programme was used to analyse the data. The population of the study consists of parents of students aged 4-6 who attended in government and private institutions in Batman Provincial Directorate for National Education in 2019-2020 academic year. The sample of the study is composed of 430 parents. Data are collected with the scale of the parents' views about the usage of technology of the preschool students. In this context, it is examined whether there is a difference with respect to variables such as the thoughts of parents about the usage of information and communication technologies of preschool children, the gender of the parents, the type of school that the children attend (private or public institution), the age range of the parents, the educational status of the parents, the internet connection at home, the frequency of information technology usage of the parents and the children. When the sub-dimensions are analysed; it is seen that parents are against their children's using technology constantly and they want to limit their using technology time. When the data were analysed the about the advantages of technology; We can say that parents agree with the view that the use of technology is useful for their children with the proper programs for them. When analysed the about technology fields of usage; it is seen that the parents have a common view about the utilization of the technology in teaching sound, words, numbers and shapes. About the disadvantages of technology; it can be mentioned that parents are convinced that usage of ICT causes physical and social damages. Parents also say that their children are very good at using technology. Parents think that the usage of ICT is beneficial for their children if they use it with guide. Parents should assume the guidance duty and right time management based on appropriate contents on the use of ICT and they should reach the proper contents interacting and cooperating with the teachers about the education program.
