Investigetion of the effect of art activities made with waste material on recycling awareness of pre-school children

To set the base of a sophisticated and conscious society, it is important to gain the knowledge of recycling in early education. In this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of art activities made with waste materials on creating recycling awareness in pre-school education. The research was applied in 2018-2019 spring semester on 20 pre-school children of five years old, educated in a kindergarten in Yenimahalle/Ankara. Quantitive method was used and single grouped, pre-test post-test design was applied in the research. Applications were progressed for eight weeks. In the analysis, it is concluded that the art activities made with waste material has a meaningful effect on recycling awareness of children. The findings of the study show that the children gained awareness on subjects like identifying and differentiating the recyclable materials and the meaning and symbol of recycling. This research helped teaching recycling awareness to children in early pre-school age and lay a foundation on raising conscious future consumers.
