Evaluation of pre-school teachers opinions about the values and values education and clasroom practices of values education

Values education is a process that allows a person to internalize values and create a personality linked to it. Education plays a very important role in gaining values of individuals. Attitudes and value transfer in education environments constitute the basis of values education. The value acquisition process that starts in the home environment of children should be supported by the education they will receive at the school. This makes teachers views on values and methods used in value education important. In this research, which is one of the qualitative research methods used in pre-school teachers' views on values and values education, the phenomenology model was used as a model of research. The data collection was realized by semistructured interviews. In this research Interview forms were formed in order to collect data. The research was conducted with 10 pre-school teachers who work in Kütahya. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result of the research; Teachers state that values are attitudes and opinions that shape behaviors and give priority to respect, love, truth and spiritual values. Differences related to the classification of the values were determined. The teachers who participated in the study stated that the main aim of values education was to ensure the development of all aspects of personality and to protect the individual and society from bad attitude and behavior. Teachers stated that the values education should start at an early age, the values are not clearly stated in the preschool education program, and the teachers use methods such as observation, behavior lists, parent cooperation to determine that values are earned. It is determined that the values gained are the most supportive of the social-emotional areas of the children, that the teachers do not have enough knowledge about the value teaching methods and they try to give the values with suggestion method. Teachers stated that they benefited from visual materials, drama and stories in their classroom practices and stated that school and family are important factors.
