The analysis of extra activities applied out of the existent program by preschool teachers

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the extra activities that teachers put in for outside of the current curriculum for preschool education program in preschool education. The study was designed in accordance with the qualitative research paradigm. In the study group of the study, 23 teachers working in public and private pre-school education institutions who continue their education in the city center of Kırşehir with the appropriate sampling technique took part in the 2018-2019 academic years. The data were collected with the help of a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher. The research data were analyzed by content analysis method. In the analysis, firstly collected data were coded, and similarities in participant expressions were categorized according to frequency and order relationships. The themes were reached by bringing together the codes analyzed in terms of meaning patterns. According to the findings obtained within the scope of the research, the activities that preschool teachers put in most, apart from the current program, are expressed as Social Responsibility and Cultural Activities. This is followed by the activities in the Environment-Nature, Science, Health, Nutrition and Sports, Skill Education and finally Efficiency Categories. Teachers in the study group express the main reason that motivates them to do extra activities outside the current program as the Students' Need. This is followed by the activities carried out by Their Own Requests, Colleague Practices, Parents' Demand and the School Administration's Request. Teachers state that they generally get the materials and materials they need for the extra activity from the parents. The answers are School Resources, We Meet Ourselves and We Get Support from Public Institutions. Teachers express "various activities related to Education, Science and Space, Nature-Agriculture Practices and Out-of-Class Social-Cultural Activities within the school as extra activities that they want to do but cannot do. Finally, the main reason for these activities that teachers want to do but cannot do is constituted by the statement Financial Insufficiency. In the study, it was concluded that some activities put in by pre-school teachers and expressed as non-curriculum were not taken part among the activities dimensions of the current program, whereas some activities were also take part in the current program. The research results were discussed on the basis of the relevant literature and some suggestions developed based on the findings were also presented.
