The relationship between burnout levels and psychological help-seeking attitudes of preschool teachers

This study's aim is to investigate the relation between burnout levels and psychological help-seeking attitudes of preschool teachers who have duties on the preschools in Kadıköy, İstanbul. The study was modeled as a survey search that is especially used relational scanning model. This study's universe is preschool teachers in Kadiköy, in 2011-2012 educational years. The study was applied on 149 preschool teachers who are picked from 15 schools with random sampling method that are included by National Educational Management of the Province in 2011-2012 educational years. The 38 (% 25, 5) of the attendee teachers are male and the 110 (% 73, 8) are female. A questionnaire consisting of three parts as a data collection tool was used. The first is a survey that includes questions for teachers to gather personal information that is arranged by researcher with the aim of collecting data about independent variable. Second is the `Masclach Burnout Inventory'. Finally, `Psychological Help-Seeking Attitude Scale' developed by Özbay (1999). The datas obtained from the research have been analized by using SPSS 15.0 program and it has been commented. In the analysis of datas frequency and percentage distribution has been used, moreover to determine the difference between the groups, One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Independent Samples T Test, Kruskal Wallis-H Test;to determine the difference between which groups Post-hoc Scheffe Test and Mann Whitney-U Analyze and to determine the relation between groups Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient has been used and the significance were tested at lowest p < .05 level. When the findings evaluated, a significant difference have been found between education level, seniority and burnout level; one of the aspects of burnout variable which is the idea of damaging students and age. Also there have been more than one significant differences between psychological help seeking attitude and gender for the benefit of women; and one of the aspects of psychological help seeking which is the belief of finding the solution on their own and age. Furthermore, a significant difference has been found between marital status and one of the aspects of psychological help seeking which is tendency to get psychological help. Another significant relation has been found between two of the aspects of burnout variable which are the idea of damaging students and the effect of being strict in communication and sum scores of psychological help seeking. However, there hasn?t been found any significant difference between education level and stress; and psychological help seeking attitude. Key words: Burnout, Psychological help-seeking, Preschool
