School administrators' perceptions in relation to their work values and leadership behaviours

The purpose of this study is to investigate school administrators? work values and leadership behaviours and to examine the relationship between the work values and leadership behaviours on the basis of school administrators? views. The survey was conducted in 114 primary school administrators working in Uşak city centre and surrounding villages on 2006-2007 academic year. The sample of the study involves the entire research population since Access to all school in the area was provided. The first survey used for the research is ?Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire MLQ? which was developed by Bass and Avolio (1995). Relability Co-eficiency (Cronbach Alpha) for 45 items was found to be .95 for the first survey. ?Determine Perceptions Questionnaire? by Yücel (1999) was used as a second survey. Relability Co-eficiency (Cronbach Alpha) for 49 items was found to be .92 for the second survey. Fort he analysis of the data, replies to five sub- questions were analyzed with aritmetic mean, Standard deviation and corelations (r). The results were tested with p 0.05 and p 0.01.The most remarkable findings of this research can be summarized as fallows: The school administrators mostly prefer personal development and helping each other among other work values. Most of the school administrators think that they are transformational leaders. Working values of the school administrators were significantly correlated with leadership styles.Key Words: School administrator, leadership, work values.
