School admministrators' occupational health and safety practies in schools and the problems that they face

In order for societies to form a strong infrastructure for the future, the building block of our future must be kept away from all kinds of danger in a safe environment. Healthy and safe school means an environment suitable for learning and teaching where students, teachers and other school employees feel themselves physically and emotionally safe. The formation of this environment will be possible with occupational health and safety practices. Considering the importance of occupational health and safety in schools is extremely important in order to avoid the risks arising from the dangers and hazards or to take necessary measures. The aim of this study was to determine the school administrators' practices on occupational health and safety in schools and to find out what problems they encounter in relation to these studies. In this regard, a questionnaire was developed about the situations that might pose a danger to schools and the problems that school administrators may face in relation to occupational health and safety. The scope of the study consisted of 319 school administrators working in primary, secondary and high school levels in Çankırı and Kastamonu city centers and districts. The developed questionnaire was applied to 178 school administrators. Data are analyzed with SPSS package program. As a result of this research, it was determined that most of the schools do not have fire detection and warning systems, there is no safety net for the stairs, there are no child protection locks in the sockets, the windows are not opened to semi-open position, drinking water analysis and machinery and electrical installation controls in schools are not carried out periodically. In addition, school administrators have problems in occupational health and safety at computer operating system level and in the application of occupational health and safety in schools.
