The effect of teacher perceptions with respect to school administrator leadership styles organizational citizenship bahaviours

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of the school directors? leadership styles on the teachers? organizational citizenship behaviours according to perception of the primary school teachers. A survey method was used in this study. The populations of the study consist of 4443 teachers working in 163 primary schools in the center of Antalya, in 2008-2009 school year. 1519 teachers from 32 schools in this population were sampled. 839 teachers of these were evaluated and analysed.A gathering data which has three sections is used in this study. In the first section, the participants? personel information was given. The style of leadership questionnaire which is developed by Şahin (2003) is used in the second section. The organizational citizenship behaviours questionnaire which is developed by Yücel (2003) is used in the third section. . Item-total test correlation of ?Leadership Styles Questionnaire? data collecting instrument was (Cronbach?s Alpha) r = 0,933, whereas that of ?Organizational Citizenship Behaviour Questionnaire? was r= 0,931. The data collecting instrument was in the form of 5-grade Likert scale (1: At no time, 2: Rarely, 3: Sometimes, 4: Usually, 5: Always). p<0,05, p<0,01 and p<0,001 levels were taken into account in significance tests.Percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation, pearson correlation coefficient, multiple linear regression, t-test for samples independent of parametric tests, one-way ANOVA for independent samples were used to analyse the data.According to the results of the study the most important dimension of OCB is ?conscientousness? dimension. The male teachers? OCB are more than female techers? OCB. As increasing the age and seniority, the teachers? OCB increase as well. In OCB the style of transformational leadership is more effective than the style of transactional leadership.
