School administrators' technological leadership behaviours and the relationship among usage of information and communication technology at management processes

The aim of this study is to determine school administrators' technological leadership behaviours and usage of information and communication technology at management processes (making a decision, planning, organization, communication, impression, coordination and supervision). The study was modelled as a convergent exploratory design, one of the mixed methods which combined qualitative and quantitative methods. The population of quantitative part of the study consists of 207 school administrators and 2693 teachers working in public schools and vocational schools in 3 center districts (Muratpaşa, Kepez, Konyaltı ) of Antalya Province in 2015-2016 educational years. The data gathered from 150 administrator questionnaires and 337 teacher questionnaires was evaluated in the study. However, more questionnaires were applied to individuals. As a result, 179 administrators' questionnaires and 508 teachers' questionnaires were evaluated. The qualitative part of the study was figured as an explored design , yet the dimension of study concerned school administrators' technological leadership behaviours was improved through ISTE (2009) standards. The study group of qualitative part of the study consists of 18 volunteer administrators and vice-managers working in 5 public high schools and 4 vocational schools in 3 center districts Kepez, Muratpaşa, Konyaaltı of Antalya Province. For data collection, a semi-structured data collection was used. In quantitative parts of the study, two data collection scales were used to determine connection between school administrators' technological leadership behaviours and usage of information and communication technology at management processes. Data collection scales were used consisting of 3 parts and 42 questions to determine school administrators' information and communication technology at management processes. In the study, data collection scale was used which consists 5 parts and sub-items to determine administrators' technological leadership behaviours. In data collection scale improved through ISTE standards, 31 items were translated in Turkish by a researcher. These survey scales were combined in a single questionnaire. Specific descriptive analyses which were conducted to calculate the quantitative data included percentage, frequency, means, standard deviation, t-test and one-way ANOVA for unrelated sampling, bivariate correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient), hierarchical multiple regression analysis. At an alpha level of either, multiple regression analysis, bivariate correlation ,05 or ,01 was set for the analyses and it was defined which alpha level was pointed out in the analyses. As a result of the study, At management processes, according to aspects of administrators and teachers in findings got from quantitative parts , the extents of making a decision, planning, organization, communication, impression, coordination and supervision were assigned significant diversities. Administrators' aspects at all dimensions were defined higher than teachers' aspects. Although at management processes, administrators stated that they used information and communication technology at high percentage, the opinions of teachers who evaluated their own administrators were less. At visionary leadership, systematic improvement, digital age learning culture, excellence in professional practice, digital citizenship stages, the aspects of administrators and teachers showed significant differences. Administrators' aspects at all dimensions were defined higher than teachers' aspects. Although administrators stated that they showed technological leadership attitudes at high percentage the opinions of teachers who evaluated their own administrators were less. To determine the relation between the usage of information and communication technologies at management processes and administrators' technological leadership attitudes, the results of hierarchical regression were commented in general, the usage of information and communication technologies at management stages by administrators influenced technological leadership attitudes in large.
