The effect of schools' humor climate on teachers' job satisfaction

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of schools' humor climate on teachers' job satisfaction. Relational screening model was used in the research. The population of the research consists of 3206 teachers working in primary and secondary schools in Erzurum province Aziziye, Karayazı, Palandöken and Yakutiye districts in the 2021-2022 academic year. 478 teachers selected from this universe by simple random sampling method constitute the sample of the research. "Humor Climate Scale" and "Job Satisfaction Scale" were used to collect data. Frequency, unrelated group "t" test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Scheffe test, correlation and regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. In the study, teachers' views on the humor climate of the schools were found to be "moderate". Humor climate; It is "high" in the positive humor climate sub-dimension, "moderate" in the negative humor climate sub-dimension, "high" in the executive support humor climate sub-dimension, and "low" in the out-group humor sub-dimension. According to the teachers' opinions, the humor climate of the schools does not differ according to the gender variable in any of the sub-dimensions. According to the teachers' opinions, significant differences were found between the humor climate of schools and the variable of educational status in the dimensions of positive humor climate, negative humor climate and out-group humor climate. On the other hand, no significant difference was found in the sub-dimension of executive support, humor climate. According to teachers' opinions, no statistically significant difference was found between the humor climate of the schools and seniority in any of the total and sub-dimension scores of the humor climate scale. According to the opinions of the teachers, a significant difference was found between the humor climate of the schools and the branch variable only in the sub-dimension of the humor climate of administrator support. Teachers' job satisfaction is generally within the "high" rating of the scale. No significant difference was found between teachers' job satisfaction and gender, seniority and branch variables. In terms of educational status variable, job satisfaction of undergraduate teachers was found to be higher than graduate teachers. Between the sub-dimensions of the humor climate scale and the total scores of the job satisfaction scale; There is a positive relationship with a positive humor climate, a negative relationship with a negative humor climate, a positive relationship with a supervisor support humor climate, and a negative relationship with a non-group humor climate. It is seen that humor climate is a significant predictor of job satisfaction in the sub-dimensions of positive humor climate, negative humor climate and out-group humor climate. Executive support, on the other hand, humor climate sub-dimension is not a significant predictor of job satisfaction. Keywords: Humor, Humor climate, Job satisfaction, Teacher
