The effect of reading-writing-presentation method on students' academic achievement and attitudes towards science in 8 th grade "The Matter and Industry" unit

This study was designed to determine the effect of reading –writing- presentation method on academic achievement and attitudes of 8th grade students toward science course and permanence of their information in the unit of the "Matter and Industry". In the study, two groups were formed by random sampling method in the division of classes into groups; one for experimental and one for control. The sample of this study consists of 47 eighth grade students studying at a primary school affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in 2017-2018 academic years. In the study, quasi-experimental method with the pretest-posttest control group was used, including the control group in which the method suitable for the curriculum recommended by the Ministry of National Education was applied (CG=23) and the experimental group in which the reading-writing-application method was applied (EG=24). Achievement Test including seven subjects belonging to "Matter and Industry" unit (MIAT), "Attitude Test toward Science" (ATTS) and "Semi Structured Interviews Form" were used as the data collection tools. The data obtained in the was study analyzed with descriptive statistics and package program. As a result of the study, it was determined that the reading-writing- presentation method had a positive effect of students' academic achievement and attitudes toward science course and the permanence of their information.
