Examination of the relationship between death awareness and life meaning with psychological symptoms

This study examined the relationship between death awareness and the meaning of life and psychological symptoms and the relationship between some demographic variables. In this study conducted with 501 participants between the ages of 18-65, Demographic Personal Information Form, Multidimensional Death Awareness Scale, Meaning of Life Scale and SCL-90-R were used. The responses given to the scales were analyzed with SPSS 26 program. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis were used to determine the relationships between the research variables and demographic data, and Spearman Correlation Analysis was used to analyze the relationships between the research variables. The predictive effect in the study was calculated with Hierarchical Regression Analysis. According to the results of the study, a positive and significant relationship was found between death awareness, meaning of life and psychological symptoms. Fear of death, disempowerment of death, not thinking about death from the sub-dimensions of death awareness; the meaning tried to be found and existing meaning from the sub-dimensions of life predicted psychological symptoms. It is anticipated that the findings obtained in this study will contribute to the literature in terms of examining the relationship between death awareness, the meaning of life and psychological symptoms.
