Posthumanism from the perspective of immortality desire and its reflections on artworks

Humanity has always wanted to get rid of the limitations that threaten its existence. Its greatest desire to transcend its limits is immortality. Knowing that people will be able to die and not knowing what happens after their deaths are the biggest reasons in terms of humanity’s pursuit of immortality. The adventure of seeking immortality from the first human to present; while it has been the subject of his thoughts on it such as mythologies, sacred religions and beliefs, the souls of philosophers in the past, humanity's pursuit of immortality has sprouted again with the effect of developing technology in the present. This desire is believed to overcome with science and technology. Because of that, thoughts as transhumanism and posthumanism have emerged. Many transhumanist and posthumanist philosophers have desired an immortal human species super computers that have transferred human's consciousness, super artificial intelligences, digital bodies, simulations, virtual realities, humanoid robots, biotechnology, nanotechnology and so on have appeared as tools affecting the desire of immortality. Artists who are impressed with these tools have exhibited different kinds of artworks. Artist who have assimilated the idea of post humanism and transhumanism play an important role to explore ways of shaping pursuit of immortality. Moreover, they help to transfer to the public in a way that makes them desirable and accessible. Our thesis will refer to works of arts that have occurred with the effect of mythologies, sacred religions, beliefs and have a theme of the desire for immortality from the past. Also, it includes thoughts and views how to search for immortality, which is inflamed with transhumanism and post humanism, is reflected on the works of art.
