Abstract (EN)

Ömer Seyfettin, one of the important names of Turkish Literature, continues to make an impact today with the works he left. The works of Ömer Seyfettin, which has been the subject of many studies, have been examined in many ways until today. The aim of this study is to identify the body appearances of the types and characters in the stories of Ömer Seyfettin in the light of the developments of the period. In this study, the stories of Ömer Seyfettin were examined and it was determined how the political, cultural and social developments in the period in which the author lived were reflected on his body appearance. After reading and examining all of the author's stories, the thesis titles were created by classifying the materials related to the body subject. The effects of modernization movements on body appearance, forms of physical intervention on the body, the effect of cultural and religious elements on body practices, and disability and insanity, which are outside of social acceptance, were determined as non-normative body. While making these determinations, twenty-four stories of Ömer Seyfettin, which we thought would be the most dominant in terms of our subject, were dealed, thus a general framework on the body appearances was presented. Based on this framework ,it can be said that it is possible to read the social effects of Westernization movements, the sanctions of power mechanisms, the effects of culture and religion, social acceptance and objections through the body appearances and actions of the characters in Ömer Seyfettin's stories.
