Abstract (EN)

The political events of the period were the primary source of Ömer Seyfettin's stories, which he began to write as an amateur in 1902 and continued until his death in 1920. It is usual for an author known for his realistic stories to include in his literature the political events that he has closely followed, observed, experienced and that have shaped his contemporary reality due to his relationship with the Union and Progress Party. For Ömer Seyfettin, however, this situation is not limited to the reflection of contemporary reality in his literature. Ömer Seyfettin does not only include the reality in his stories, but he also tries to direct this reality by means of his stories. Representations of the Second Constitutional Era in Ömer Seyfettin's stories are related with Ömer Seyfettin's this attempt. This thesis examines the changing representations of the Second Constitutional Era in Ömer Seyfettin's stories and how they relate to the issues of the time in which they were written, as well as to Union and Progress, focusing on how, how much and why these representations change according to different contexts. In this way, it will be possible to determine how and why the initially positive image of the Second Constitutional Era became disillusioned, how this disillusionment became functionalised with the World War I, and which tools were used to criticize the Second Constitutional Era in all its aspects after the World War I.
