Investigation of the effects of pre-treatment of alpha tocopherol in soybean (Glycine max L.) roots under salinity

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effects of exogenously applied alpha- tocopherol on (Glycine max L.) leaves under salt stress was determined in wiev of growth parameters, proline, malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion production, calcium and phosphorus ion contents, auxin level and activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, peroxidase, glutathione reductase, glutathione-s-transferase in two weeks old (Glycine max L.) roots. Exogenously applied alpha-tocopherol increased relative water content and relative growth rate but reduced proline, hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion radical and MDA content. Salt stress decreased SOD, APX, GST and increased POX activity. However, alpha-tocopherol application reduced SOD enzyme acitivity and increased POX, GST but did not change APX activity. Otherwise, calcium and phosphorus and internal auxin level were increased by alpha-tocopherol. This findings suggested that alpha-tocopherol application alleviated the salt induced oxidative damage by simulating the some antioxidant enzyme or stimulating them and it also may have produced signal from leaves to roots
