A study on written expression incoherency of 12th grade students: Sampling of Ardeşen

The purpose of this reasearch is to determine written expression incoherency of 12th grade students who attende high schools in Ardesen. A total of 165 students from Ogretmen Lisesi, Anadolu Lisesi and Turk Telekom Lisesi were participated in this study. All the participants were 12th grade students of 2010-2011 academic year. The data elicited from the students by mcans of a written task which allows participants to choose among four topics. Additionally, a guestionnaire was employed in order to demonstrate the ideas and practices of Turkish Language and Literature teachers on determining the types and reasons of the inchorence in students writings, and remedying these inchorences.The data of guestionnaire indicates that the students do not attach importance to this issue as well as local language usage has negative effect on the standard language in particular. In order to get a wider snapshot of the data elicited from the students an open-ended guestionnaire was conducted for gathering data from 6 teachers of the students participated in this study. The results of the two guestionnaires overlap. Teacher participants agreed on the idea that students do not make enough reading.The results suggest that students should be enabled to develop a concern towards written incohorence in Turkish Language and grammar lessons. In the light of the data, the following recommendations can be made. İdrst of all, the essons should reguire grammar and writing practices. Furthermore, the factors such as student, family, environment, and media should be considered while remedying written incohorence of the students.Keywords: Mother tongue, Expression, written expression, written expression inchorency, grammer.
