Ondokuz Mayis University Faculty of Medicineapplicants to Pelitköy and Aziziye Education Family Health Center multiple drug use in adult patientsinvestigation of factors affecting conditions and compliance with treatment

Aim: This study was carried out to observe the drug use habits and treatment compliance of the patients who applied to Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine (OMÜTF) Pelitköy and Aziziye Education Family Health Centers, to investigate their polypharmacy status, the distribution of the disease and drug groups used. Methods: This research is a cross-sectional type study. Within the scope of the study, the questionnaire form prepared by the researcher was applied to the patients over the age of 18 who applied to OMÜTF Pelitköy and Aziziye EASMs between 01.10.2022 and 31.12.2022, after giving verbal consent by giving information about the purpose of the research. The data collection form was created by the researcher by scanning the literature. 9 questions about sociodemographic characteristics of the participants; A total of 35 questions, 26 of which aim to obtain information about disease states, drug use patterns and treatment compliance, were directed. Results: 375 volunteers, 200 (53.3%) female and 175 (46.7%) male, participated in the study, and the mean age was determined as 44.64 ± 15.31 years. It was found that there were 108 (28.8%) patients with 2 or more chronic diseases, defined as multimorbidity. When the chronic diseases of the patients are evaluated, the most; 40.1% of the patients were found to have hypertension. 18.7% of the patients had polypharmacy, 43.8% did not know the names of the drugs they used, 65.3% forgot to take their medications, 68.8% did not take their medications on time. It was determined that 50.9% of the participants stopped taking their medications without consulting their doctor. It was determined that 55.5% of the participants prescribed or bought drugs without a patient, thinking that they might be necessary, and kept them at home. response has been received. "Have you heard of a definition of "rational drug use"? It was determined that 68.8% of the respondents gave no answer to the question. Polypharmacy was found more frequently in older people, those with a low education level, those who did not work, those who quit smoking, those who did not use alcohol, and those with a lower income level. Conclusions: It is seen that polipharmacy affects a large part of the society and is a changeable parameter. It is essential that rational drug use be put into practice in the development of community and individual health and that patient-physician communication should be developed in this direction. In order to ensure that patients comply with the principles of rational drug use, all other health care providers should cooperate with the patient and physician.
