Consumer behaviours towards organic farming products: an application in erzurum province

Abstract (EN)

The production efficiency rate per unit area in agriculture has been gradually increased with the development of science and technology and it is aimed to meet the food needs of the increasing world population. Additionally, the awareness of healthy and high quality nutrition in societies has also changed the expectations of agricultural production and organic agriculture has led to the formation of the legal basis of good agricultural practices. In the research study, it is aimed to determine the perspective of the region on organic agriculture and the behaviors of consumers in terms of healthy and quality nutrition. In this study carried out using the quantitative research method, the survey method was utilised as a data collection tool. It was benefited from 400 samples residing in Erzurum province and accepting participation in the study. Questionnaire statements were created by the researcher by examining similar studies performed before. Demographic questions, descriptive questions and consumer attitude scale were utilised in the survey. The information obtained from the questionnaire form was analyzed using the SPSS 25 package program. In the analysis obtained, independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance as well as complementary statistics were used. The population of the research was selected by the Convenience Sampling Method among the households doing food shopping in Erzurum. A comprehensive discussion was made on the findings and the results were prepared as a report. It was concluded that the hypothesis tests did not negatively affect the use of chemical inputs by the consumers participating in the research while organic products were preferred and purchased by the consumers in some hypothesis tests. In the light of the information obtained in this way, recommendations are presented.
