Abstract (EN)

This study examines how explosion and fire risks can be assessed in industrial production facilities and the measures that can be taken against these risks. In particular, the hazards of toluene solvent used in a paint production facility are discussed, and the spreading area of toluene vapors and explosion risks are modeled using ALOHA software. Toluene is a volatile and explosive chemical that can pose a major hazard if it leaks during the production process. Thanks to ALOHA software, the toxic effects and explosion risk of the chemical were analyzed, taking into account environmental factors. The results of the study highlight the measures that should be taken to improve the safety of those working with this type of chemical in plants. These measures include proper ventilation systems, explosion and toxic gas detection devices, use of ex-proof equipment and employee training. In addition, with increased compliance with Turkish legislation and standards, explosion and fire risks are expected to decrease. Finally, support for academic studies and updating and improving standards by institutions related to occupational health and safety will contribute to making the chemical industry safer.
