The effects of organized industrial zones on employment: The example of Manisa organised industrial zone

As well as the rest of the world, unemployment is one of the leading problems, which needs to be solved, in Turkey Recently, with the loss of agriculture's domination, civic unemployment is gradually increasing. One of the main reasons for this is that there aren't enough new business opportunities. Besides their contribution to local augmentation and development, organized industrial zones, which are an important model of planned industrialization, provide employment and cause reduction in unemployment with the help of its new business oppourtunities and fields. In 1961, establishment of Bursa Organized Industrial Zone is Turkey's first acquintance with organized industrial zones, whose first examples were seen in the United Kingdom in 1896. In the first section of this three-section dissertation, firstly the term "Organized Industrial Zone" is theoretically introduced, then the historical development process, objectives, regulations and the status in the development plan of Organized Industrial Zones are explained. In the second section, the terms and types of "unemployment" and "employment" are introduced and the current status of employment and unemployment in Turkey are analyzed. These subjects are importantly taken into consideration in order to reveal the connection between Organized Indstrial Zones and employment. In the third and the last section, explanations are made on the issues which are a field survey performed on the managers of the firms which are currently operating in the Manisa Organized Industrial Zone, the importance level of qualified workforce and technical training on employment in this context and the status of cooperation between Celal Bayar University and industries.
