Abstract (EN)

This study aims to evaluate the earthquake education provided in formal education according to the opinions of teachers who experienced the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. The research is a qualitative research and the interview technique was used to collect the data of the research. In the research, criterion sampling, which is a non-random sampling method and a purposeful sampling type, was used to determine the participants in order to obtain their opinions on earthquake education in formal education. For the criterion sample, 18 teachers working in Adıyaman, one of the provinces most affected by the two major earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş in 2023, were selected. In selecting teachers, attention was paid to the inclusion of achievements related to earthquake education in the curriculum of the courses belonging to their branches. A semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher was used in the research. Content analysis was used to analyze the data obtained in the research. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that teachers related to earthquake education mostly did not receive training in university or in-service, the number and duration of achievements were low, the content was given little place and was theoretical, direct narration was mostly used in educational activities, open-ended questions were mostly used as measurement tools, awareness-raising activities were not mostly carried out in schools, and the necessary attention was not paid to drills.
