Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is aimed to examine gossip in organizations in terms of individual differences. In this context, the relationship between organizational gossip and Type A personality, external locus of control, shyness and anger were examined. Quantitative research methods were used in the study. In this direction, the data needed were obtained through a standardized questionnaire. The data were obtained with the participation of employees of a private sector enterprise operating in the automotive sector in Kocaeli. Within this scope, 226 employees participated to research. The gossip was measured with a two-dimensional scale (work-related and non-work-related gossip), and other variables were measured with single factor scales. According to research findings, it was estimated that there was a moderate positive relationship between Type A personality traits with organizational gossip. There was a negative and weak relationship between the external locus of control and the total score of organizational gossip. Besides, there was a low positive relationship between shyness level and organizational gossip. There was a positive correlation between anger level and organizational gossip at low strength. In the multiple regression analysis, type A personality was found to has the most severe positive effect on gossip as an individual difference. In independent samples T test findings, where the differences according to the managerial position were examined in terms of gossip level, it was found that the managers had more gossip. As a result, the relationship between type A personality trait, external locus of control, shyness and anger and organizational gossip was found to be statistically significant. Findings have been discussed in detail in the discussion section.
