Sultan structures in the architecture of the Orhan Gazi period

In the thesis titled "Sultan Buildings in Orhan Gazi Period Architecture", the architectural works built / commissioned on behalf of Orhan Gazi, who ruled as the 2nd Ottoman Sultan between 1324-1362, are discussed. Bursa in 1322-1326, Iznik in 1331, Izmit in 1337, and Izmit in 1326 were conquered and the borders were expanded towards Çanakkale by taking Balıkesir, Manyas, Edincik and Kapıdağı as a result of the war with Karesi Principality, one of the important principalities of the period, in 1350. In the period between 1352-1361, first Çimpe Castle and then Edirne were taken under Ottoman rule by taking advantage of the internal turmoil of Byzantium and the settlement of the principality in Rumelia was finalised. In this period, 53 buildings built in the name of Orhan Gazi are located within the provincial borders of Bilecik, Bursa, Düzce, Kocaeli, Sakarya and Zonguldak. In the aforementioned areas, a total of 9 different building types were identified, including 37 mosques, 3 baths, 3 imaret, 4 madrasahs, 2 schools, 1 tomb, 1 fountain and 1 soup kitchen. It has been determined that 7 of these buildings have been completely renovated in accordance with the original, 14 of them have been renovated independently from the original, 24 of them have not survived to the present day, 2 of them are in ruins, and 7 of them have survived to the present day by carrying the period characteristics to a great extent. In this context, the study was limited to the buildings built in the name of Orhan Gazi between 1324-1362 and for this purpose, the buildings were defined in their main lines, their distribution according to settlements, the types of buildings built, their architectural features, the sources used in dating the buildings and the place of the buildings in the architecture of the period were discussed.
