Abstract (EN)

During the production of the wood raw material, production deficits occur depending upon not using the appropriate methods at the stages of cutting-chopping down, branch and roof intake, fractionalization, shelling, wood extraction, loading and carrying and because of this, quality and value losses take place regarding the wooden products. In this study, physical harms that were constituted on carried logs by wood raw material production practiced in Artvin region that has highland structure were established. For that purpose, 400 logs in total at 3 different forest storehouse were measured. As a result of measurement, the highest damage depth and damage length on logs were specified. Physical harms occurred on logs were studied according to the tree type, log radius and height, or whether it is coniferous tree or broadleaved. During the measurements and observations, physical harms like edge harm, fracture, smash and split on logs were determined. However, on half of the logs there occurred no harms or damages. Moreover, on logs average damage length was determined as 19.90 centimeters, average damage depth was determined as 16.75 milimeters, and average damage degree was determined as 0.62. When a general assessment was conducted over logs, it was seen that the 59 percent of the logs were not damaged, 24 percent of them had few damages, 13 percent of them had intermediary damages and 4 percent of the logs were severely damaged. At the end of the study, it was concluded that as a result of wood raw material production works, physical harms at highly unacceptable levels on the products which were brought to the storehouse in the Artvin region which has steep and rocky lands that has land slope and forests in its rocky areas, were observed. This study must be generalized in other regions with the aim of determining the physical harms that arise from wood raw material production stages regarding logs, and regional differences and mechanization usage level?s effect on physical harms must be researched.
