The case study method effect Turkish lessons to 8th grade reading and writing success and problem-solving skills (The theme of society life example)

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of case study method on reading and writing success and problem solving skills in 8th grade Turkish lesson. In the study "Preliminary test - Final Test Control Group Research Design" was used from experimental designs. The working group of the study constitutes the 8F and 8G branches of Giresun Kanuni Secondary School in the academic year of 2015-2016. 8G test group and 8F control group were selected from these classes. A total of 45 students participated 20 in the experimental group and 25 in the control group in the study. The application is limited 8th grade Turkish lesson on 'Society Life Theme' and case studies are prepared taking into consideration society life related gains. In the case of the control group 8F class, which is the of the determined theme (Society Life) of the teacher guide book while the teacher guide book and the case study method were used together in the experimental group 8G class. Perception Scale for Problem Solving Skills, Reading Understanding Achievement Test, Writing Activity and Writing Activity Evaluation Form, Student Opinion Form on Case Study Method were used as data collection tools. These forms applied as pre-test and post-test before and after application. However, the Student Opinion Form for the Case Study Method was applied only to the experimental group 8G at the end of the experiment. As a result of the research, the students of the experimental group mainly positive opinions regarding the method and the experimental group of the pre-test-post-test averages is more successful. This indicates that the case study method will have a pozitive effect of reading, writing success and problem-solving skills.
