Abstract (EN)
At 90?s of 20th century political, economic and ideological changes took place in the Eurasian continent. The collapse of the Soviet Union and world socialist system led to the beginning of political and economic reforms in the former Soviet republics.The new geopolitical situation which was completely depend on the tasks primarily concerned with ensuring territorial integrity and independence, achievement of political stability and democratic development emerged in Central Asian countries.Official recognition of new states by the international community was great support for them. However, post-Soviet Central Asian countries encountered many problems to be solved within short and limited time. The most important of them is to provide national and regional security.Among these problems, drug trafficking, border issues and extremism is in the first place. The formation of new states under the terms of political regime, economic system and the radical change of the governance principles has led to conflicts.They are ethnic conflicts, territorial claims, water and land use disputes. The current situation has required a search of new approaches in developing policy for this area. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the main trends for creation of Central Asian regional security system.This study examined the factors affecting regional security in Central Asia. The policies of global and regional powers and implications of that policies to the foreign policy pursued by the Central Asian countries in the region have been explained.Also, in this study the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Collective Security Treaty Organization in providing regional security and the approaches of regional actors to security problems have been put forth.Key words: Eurasia, Central Asia, USSR, Regional Security, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Collective Security Treaty Organization
