Abstract (EN)
This thesis examines the regional formation and threat dimension of the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization in Central Asian countries. Central Asia holds significant geopolitical importance due to its geographical location, making it vulnerable to terrorism and posing a serious security threat to the region. Al-Qaeda, founded in the late 1980s, emerged as a global terrorist organization in the 1990s. This study investigates the regional dynamics of Al-Qaeda's presence in Central Asia, with a particular focus on Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, where these countries play crucial roles in facilitating Al-Qaeda's activities and organizational structure. Furthermore, this thesis addresses the specific threat dimension posed by Al-Qaeda to Central Asian countries. Exploiting factors such as instability, poverty, and extremist ideologies prevalent in the region, Al-Qaeda has actively operated in Central Asia. The organization promotes radicalization, trains militants, and conducts terrorist attacks, presenting a significant challenge to the security of these nations. Based on the analysis of Al-Qaeda's presence and threat dimension in Central Asia, the thesis proposes measures to address this threat and implement preventive strategies. Recommendations include fostering regional cooperation, sharing intelligence, enhancing the capacity of security forces, and promoting socio-economic development. By raising awareness about the terrorist threat in Central Asian countries, this study aims to stimulate policymakers, academics, and interested parties to further engage in this area. Understanding the regional formation and threat dimension of Al-Qaeda is pivotal in improving the security situation and developing more effective counterterrorism strategies in Central Asia.
