Abstract (EN)
This research was carried out to determine the effects of different sea depths on the growth and survival of mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis, Lamarck, 1819) between the dates of August 2008 and August 2009 in inner harbour area in Sinop. One year old mussels, one year old, with a mean length of 42.43±0.28 mm and mean weight of 7.87±0.17 g were collected from pier leg. Mussel were placed in lantern nets were hung on depth of 2 m, 10 m and 20 m on longline system. Mean specific growth rate as length and live wieght, meat yield and survival rate were investigated for all depths between August 2008 and August 2009. Monthly temperature, salinity, tubitidity, total particulate matter, particulate organic matter, particulate inorganic matter and chlorophyll a were also measured during exprimental period. At the end of experiment, mean length and live weigth were determined as 65.69±0.59 mm, 63.19±0.70 mm, 56.79±0.62 mm ve 26.77±0.83 g, 24.68±0.64 g, 16.78±0.49 g respectively. Meat yield was determined as %21.78±0.84, %21.29±0.65 and %21.71±1.05, respectively. Maximum meat yield was found as %27.43 at the depth of 20 m in August 2008 and minimum most yield was %16.40 at the depth of 2 m in November 2008.According to depth of 2 m, 10 m and 20 m, mean specific growth rate and live weigth were found as %54.97, %48.75, %33.91 and %241.45, %210.05, %121.55, respectively. Survival rates were obtained as %58.78, %67.07 and %77.96 in the end of the experiment, respectively.Key words: Mussel, growth, survival, different depth, , Mytilus galloprovincialis
