Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to determine the predictive relationships between academic motivation and academic procrastination and to investigate whether depressive symptoms mediate the relationship between academic motivation and academic procrastination. In the research, correlational survey model was used. Correlational survey model is the research that examines the relationship between at least two or more variables in depth. In this respect, structural equality model was used to determine the relationships between childhood depression, academic motivation, and academic procrastination. The target population of the research is secondary school students. In order to form the sample group in the research process, the research process was conducted with a sample of 861 individuals from this population using cluster, proportional to size and appropriate sampling methods. Depression sub-dimension of children's depression and anxiety scale, academic motivation and academic procrastination scale and personal information protocol were used as data collection tools in the study. It was emerged as a result of the study that academic motivation predicts academic procrastination negatively and significantly in secondary school students, depressive symptoms predict academic procrastination negatively and significantly and that depressive symptoms partially mediate the relationship between academic motivation and academic procrastination. In conclusion, it was determined that depressive symptoms partially mediate the relationship between academic motivation and academic procrastination. Based on the findings, it can be said that academic motivation is an important protective variable in the emergence of academic procrastination behaviors, and depressive symptoms significantly shape the relationship between these two variables. In this context, it is thought that considering the findings obtained in the planning and execution of preventive and rehabilitative practices will make the applications more effective.
