High school students attidues towards learning history in their leisure times

Main goal of this study is to determine, whether high school students are doing anything in their leisure times in order to learn history or not. And if the answer is yes, to find out what are these activities or if the answer is no , what are the reasons for this behaviour and how to motivate them in order to do some activities.In order to fulfill this goal, a survey , which also includes open ended questions, is made by the participation of 236 students across different high schools from Trabzon province in 2010. At the end end of the study, the data so gathered was analyzed with SPSS 15.0 statistical analysis program and the results were assessed.Through the assesment so made, it is made clear that the students are not very inclined to do activities in their leisure times in order to learn history. Reasons of this situation was tried to be determined through the questions that were asked in the questionnaire.It is made clear as a result of the study that new materials and sources should be developed, as well as providing new activities, in order to motivate students.
