Abstract (EN)

As we approach the first quarter of the 21st century, people are constantly being exposed to technology and media tools which we can't catch up with and therefore these tools always make their effect felt. In this study, it is aimed to study the media literacy levels of secondary education students. Research sample is composed of 542 students studying at five different secondary schools in Giresun city-centre. For research model, relational screening model in survey models has been used. Survey models are research approaches which aim to describe a situation which existed in the past or still exists in a such way that exists. The findings of the study have been analysed with SPSS 22.0 and interpreted with ANOVA ve t-Test. In the light of the findings from the study which has been conducted to determine the media literacy levels of secondary education students; it has been established that the media literacy levels of secondary education students is neutral ( = 3,056) . Moreover, some results have been obtained such as the media literacy level of students who watch TV or use the Internet more than five hours is higher. As a conclusion, it has been suggested that media literacy education should be provided with a conscious of life-long learning and that education institutions should carry out further studies regarding this issue in order for students to interiorise this issue, understand, comment and analyse what the media conveys.
