Use of poetry texts in secondary school Turkish textbooks of (5-8. classes) for Turkish language teaching

In this study, it is aimed to examine the use of poetry texts in secondary school (5th to 8th grades) Turkish lessons. For this purpose, Turkish textbooks and workbooks, prepared by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in 2016-2017 academic year have been examined. In particular, the efficiency of the activities and questions in the Turkish Workbooks has been evaluated from the aspect of Turkish language teaching. In the study, from qualitative research methods, document analysis method was used as a data collection technique. Textbooks and workbooks were examined and interpreted by text scanning method. The importance of the poetry texts in Turkish textbooks was put forward and the texts were examined in terms of content, style, language and expression. Furthermore, the activities and questions related with poetry texts in secondary school Turkish lesson workbooks were analysed according to which aspect of the text they were related and the typologies of the activities/questions were set out. In this context, the place, function and use of poetry texts in secondary school Turkish textbooks and workbooks have been presented.
