Analysis of texts in secondary school 5th grade turkish coursebooks according to personality types

The main purpose of this study is to examine the texts in the 5th grade secondary school Turkish textbooks in terms of the five-factor personality model "extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness (self-discipline), neuroticism, openness to development/experience". In this study, document review, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study material of the research consists of 18 narrative texts identified in the 5th grade Turkish textbook I and II, prepared according to the Turkey Century Education Model and taught in the 2024-2025 Academic Year and published by the Ministry of National Education Publishing House. In line with the purpose of the research, the texts were read considering the five-factor personality model and sample passages reflecting the five-factor personality traits were identified from those texts. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the obtained data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the narrative texts in the 5th grade Turkish textbook were repeated 151 times in total. In addition, it was determined that the most repeated personality trait was conscientiousness, followed by openness to experience, agreeableness, extroversion and emotional balance. In the texts examined, it was determined that the text in which the personality traits were repeated the most was "Her Yüreğe Nakış" (f= 15), while the texts in which the personality traits were repeated the least were "Gözüm Arkada Kalmayacak" (f= 5) and "Ne Olacak Bu Yemek Sorun" (f= 5). Various suggestions were made based on the results of the research.
