Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to identify the 7th and 8th grade students' awareness of winter sports in terms of cognitive, affective and psychomotor fields and compare them through various variables. The universe of this survey model study composes of 13542 7th and 8th grade students who study at 81 middle schools in the city centre of Erzurum within the teaching-training season of 2016-2017. The sample group, on the other hand, comprises 1330 7th and 8th grade students who study at 19 middle schools, each of which teaches in 3 different types. At the stage of data gathering, 'The Scale of Winter Sports Awareness Levels', developed by ESKİ (2010) was employed. The scale includes 35 questions which measure the secondary education students' awareness levels of winter sports. In addition, upon asking for an expert view, a personal information form, including 11 items, was prepared. The data obtained was analysed in the computer environment with the help of SPSS 22 package program. To identify the general distribution properties, frequency and the percentage distribution of the data was used and the average value of the views regarding the expressions in the scale was given. The study provides the results of Independent-Samples T test –employed to determine the relation between winter sports awareness levels and two independent variables- and One-Way ANOVA variance analysis test –carried out to identify the relation between winter sports awareness levels and more than two independent variables. As a result of the study, it has been established that the (7th and 8th grade) students' levels of cognitive awareness are "Middle Aware", the levels of affective awareness are "Highly Aware", the levels of psychomotor awareness are "Less Aware", and levels of general awareness are "Middle Aware". Through the study, the cognitive awareness levels of students have been observed to be significantly effected by such variables as whether their families engage in sports, what type of school the students study at, what type of sports students do, how long they do sports. On the other hand, the variables that influence the students' levels of affective awareness significantly have been observed to be what grade they study at, what type of families they have, whether their families are interested in sports, whether the students themselves do sports, whether they watch sports programmes on TV, what type of school they study at, how often they do sports in a week and how often they watch sports programmes in a week. Finally, in the study it has also been observed that the students' levels of psychomotor awareness are significantly influenced by the variables of what gender they are, what type of school they study at, what sports they do, how often they do sports in a week. In parallel with the results obtained in the study, it has been deduced that the awareness levels of individuals –especially in terms of psychomotor awareness- are required to be enhanced. It cannot be denied that the natural and social environment has a substantial influence on psychomotor awareness. For this reason, it is necessary for the individuals to be encouraged to utilize the winter sports facilities located in Erzurum. Moreover, during the PE classes at schools, pupils should be taught about winter sports and some school trips should be organized to introduce the students with the facilities. The families should be made conscious about winter sports and they should be asked for support to encourage the students to engage in winter sports Key Words: Winter Sports, Awareness, Cognitive Awareness, Affective Awareness, Psychomotor Awareness, Middle School Students.
