Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the use of Scratch, a block-based programming in science teaching, on the academic achievements and motivation of secondary school eighth grade students. The study was conducted in a public school affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Ağrı province in the spring semester of the 2020-2021 academic year at the 8th.it was conducted at the grade level. The study group consists of 22 eighth grade students selected by the non-selective method. In the research, qualitative and quantitative data were obtained using mixed method. In the study, repeated measurements, pre-test- post-test weak experimental pattern were used The "Achievement Test for the Subject of Pressure" (BKYBT) and the "Motivation Scale for Science Learning" (FÖYMÖ) were used as data collection tools. Qualitative data were collected by written opinion form. Scratch reminder training and Scratch supported applications were made before the application. The study lasted a total of 5 weeks. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in students' academic achievement and motivation towards science learning after the application. The written opinion data were analyzed descriptively. The findings revealed that students perceive the application as a fun, motivating and lasting learning method.
