The evaluation of secondary 5th grade math curriculum according to teachers opinion: A case study

The research aims to reveal the views of secondary school mathematics teachers on the fifth grade mathematics program in order to contribute to the development of the program. The research is limited to the fifth grade mathematics program and the participant group and views. Research is a qualitative patterned case study. The universe of the study is formed by Secondary School Math Teachers working in the mone. The data were obtained from secondary school mathematics teachers determined by purposeful sampling method. The study group was determined with a similar sampling method. Opinions of 64 participants were taken in the research. Sample of the study is formed by 64 math teachers. 25 of them working in Kırsehir and the rest reached via electronic media in working in other provinces. Data is obtained with semi-structured "Interview Form of Secondary School Math Program Evaluation" developed the researcher himself. Interview form consists of questions about such topics as the achievements of the program, content, and facilities. The same interview form is used both in face to face interviews and electronic media. Data obtained from the research is analysed with descriptive analysis method. In this context, themes are shaped with the participants views and these themes are supported with the original participants' views. In the research, 594 opinions and 136 suggestions were stated regarding the themes of the program. Accordingly, it is seen that participant teachers have more positive views regarding the content, achievements, difficulties in implementation and strengths and weaknesses of the program.
