The examining of secondary school student parents' awareness for children's literature in terms of different variables

This research aims to examine secondary school student parents' awareness for children's literature in terms of different varriables. In the study, relational scanning model of the descriptive resarch method was used.The population of the study conducted in the spring semester of the academic year 2017-2018 is to create the parents of secondary school students who are studying in the province of Giresun.The sample of the research is to create the parents of Çavuşlu secondary school students in the country of Görele, Giresun and the parents of Gedikkaya secondary school students in the city center of Giresun.The students in Çavuşlu secondary school were also included in the study in order to reveal the awareness of students' reading habits and parents' awareness of children's literature. As data collection tool in the research, "The Parent Interview Form for Children's Literature", "Survey of Awareness of The Parents for Children's Literature" and "Student Interview form for Reading Habits were Used".The data of survey were analyzed with SPSS 16.0. In the analysis of the data, frequency, percentage, average values and calculated the correaltion coefficient; t-test, Anova analysis were applied. In the result of the research, the awareness of secondary school student parents for children's literature was determined that was at the level "I agree".It has been concluded that there is not a significant relationship betwee the awareness of the parents for children's literature and their educational status, where they got education, gender, income status. Also it has been concluded that there is a relationship between children's literature works that parents and students read, the rate of parents who have not read the works of children's literature is more than those who have read.The parents read book more often than students and there is also a relationship between parents' awareness for children's literature and children's reading habits.
