Teaching vocabulary with games in Turkish for secondary school students

The word is an element that individuals benefit from in transferring the world of emotion and meaning to the other side. In order for this transfer to take place correctly and clearly, the words in the mother tongue should be taught to the individuals in a programmed way. The importance of vocabulary teaching is also great in the teaching of Turkish as a mother tongue. For this reason, research on vocabulary teaching in Turkish is needed. In this study, the effect of teaching vocabulary with games in Turkish for middle school students was investigated. The research was carried out with Afyonkarahisar İhsaniye Akören Middle School and İhsaniye İmam Hatip Middle School 6th grade students. A random design with pretest-posttest control group was used in the study. While teaching vocabulary with games was carried out in the experimental group, traditional vocabulary teaching was carried out in the control group. The vocabulary achievement test prepared by the researcher was used to collect data. SPSS 25 program was used to analyze the data. According to the findings obtained from the study, it was concluded that vocabulary teaching with games is more effective than traditional vocabulary teaching.
