The evaluation of secondary school students attitudes towards science lessons and laboratory

Purpose of this research is to "evaluate the attitudes of secondary school students towards the science course and experiments they have taken during their education period, and to investigate whether there is a difference in attitudes towards science course and experiments at class and gender level". In the study, 474 students studying in Uşak constituted the research sample. As a data collection method, "Attitude scale towards science course and experiments" was applied. The data were analysed using SPSS statistical software. In the study, the relationship between secondary school students' attitude points towards science course and science experiments was calculated by "Spearman Rank Correlation". The results of Skewness and Kurtosis, Kolmagorov-Smirnov tests applied to attitude scores towards science course and science experiments revealed that the data were not normally distributed. In order to test whether the scores of the depended variables differ by gender, "Mann Whitney U" test, which is one of the nonparametric tests, was used. In order to see whether there is a significant difference in the results obtained from the scales according to the class levels, "Kruskal Wallis" analysis, which is one of the non-parametric methods, was applied. When the results were investigated, it was determined that there was no significant difference at the class and gender level.Secondary school students' attitudes towards science courses and attitudes towards science experiments influence each other. The results of this research, which aims to evaluate the attitudes of secondary school students towards science course and science experiments, provide important contributions to the literature.
