Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the study is to determine secondary school students' physical activity exercise stages of change behaviours and levels of predisposition to physical education. In the study, it was also aimed to reveal the relationship between secondary school students' physical activity exercise stages of change behaviours and levels of predisposition to physical education course. Using screening model, this study was carried out in 2015-2016 academic year. The sample of the study comprises of 608 females and 582 males and in total 1190 secondary students who are studying in 10 different secondary schools. "Personal Information Form, Physical Activity Exercise Stages of Change Questionnaire, and Physical Education Predisposition Scale" were used for collecting research data. Descriptive statistics such as "percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean and standard deviation" were used in analysing research data. In order to check the distribution of data normality tests and graphs were used. Besides, t-test was used for paired comparisons, chi-square test and one-way analysis of variance (Anova) was used for multiple comparisons. The Tukey test was used to determine the source of variance. Pearson correlation coefficient was used in order to determine the relationship between dependent and independent variables. In the study it was observed that the secondary school students were at the higher stages of physical activity exercise stages of change and have a high level of physical activity. It was found out that secondary school students' physical activity exercise stages of change differ in terms of variables such as gender, class level, family income, school success and school management's attitude. Also, their predisposition to physical education course is at the medium level. The comparison of participants in terms of their gender, class level, family income and school management's attitude revealed a meaningful difference in predisposition to physical education whereas no meaningful difference was found in terms of school success variable. Another result of the study is that a meaningful relationship was observed between the participants' physical activity exercise stages of change and perceived ability towards physical education and value placed on physical education sub-dimensions.
