Determination of the knowledge levels and their attitude on the recycling of secondary school students

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate secondary school students' level of knowledge about recycling, identify their attitudes towards the environment with recycling and get their ideas about recycling. As a study group, in the 2016-2017 education year, 502 students, who study central district of Giresun were chosen. When the students' grades were investigated, there are 173 students in the 6th grade, 164 students in the 7th grade and 165 students in the 8th grade. When it came to their gender, it was seen that there were 242 boys and 260 girls. In the quantitative part of the study, two applications were done as a data collection tool. Firstly, the Recycling Achievement Test (RAT) which was developed by the researcher was applied on the study group. Next Environmental Attitude Scale (EAS) was applied on the same group. The data were analyzed by the way of SPSS programme. When the results examined, it was found out that there were differences according to the grades and genders of the students. In the qualitative part of the study after the applications which were done to find out students' ideas about recycling, with a semi structured interview form prepared by the researcher from each of the grades 20 students were interviewed and the collected data were evaluated by the content analysis method. When the results were analyzed, it was found out that the students were informed of recycling and they were willing to take part in recycling practices.
