Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the sportsmanship behaviors of secondary school students in terms of various variables. From this point of view, it is seen that how important sports and sportsmanship are on the new generation, it is essential to contribute to future research and to support it with more research. The study population consists of secondary school students studying in Erzurum, and the sample group is a total of 303 randomly selected volunteers studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Personal Information Form and Physical Education Course Sportsmanship Behavior Scale (PECSBS) were used as data collection tools. Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U Test and Normality Test were applied to the data. SPSS 26 package program was used for the analysis. The analysis of the gender variable shows no statistically significant difference in terms of sub-dimensions and total scores. Being a club athlete creates a statistically significant difference showing positive behavior and the total score of the scale in favor of those who are not athletes of a club (p <0.05). No meaningful difference was found in the sub-dimensions of avoiding negative behaviors. The analysis conducted based upon the grade of the students does not indicate any statistically significant difference between the total score and the sub-dimension of exhibiting positive behavior and the sub-dimension of avoiding negative behavior. As for the result of the analysis based upon the parents' education level and the students' academic achievement, a statistically significant difference was detected between the total score and the sub-dimension of exhibiting positive behavior and avoiding negative behavior. The Man Whitney U test was conducted to determine the correlation between the physical education sportsmanship behavior scale based upon the variable of playing in the school team, and total scores. According to the results of the Man Whitney U test, with the variable of playing in the school team no statistically meaningful differentiation was observed in the sub-dimension of exhibiting positive behavior, negative behavior avoidance sub-dimension and scale total score.
