Retrospective evaluation of quality of life in patients undergoing orthognatic surgery

Orthognatic surgery is a surgical operation with correction of dentofacial deformities, aesthetic and functional gains, with the aim of harmonizing malocclusion and dental arches. The quality of life of the patients varies after the procedures. Aesthetic and functional gains have been reported in the literature as an increase in quality of life. There are many factors affecting quality of life. After orthognatic surgery, it is tried to improve the quality of life by eliminating functional factors such as pain, chewing, speech and breathing, aesthetic factors such as facial asymmetry, mouth opening, and compliance of the jaws. In our study, the oral health effect profile 14 (OHIP 14) and orthognatic quality of life questionnaire (OQLQ) directed to patients with orthognathic surgery were used to determine the quality of life in the pre- and post-intervention sixth and twelfth months. The aim of this study is to determine whether changes in skeletal cephalometric values after orthognathic surgery and whether these changes have an effect on quality of life. According to the findings, it was determined that orthognatic surgery increased the quality of life of the patients. There was an increase in quality of life even in the early postoperative period. Cephalometric measurements determined with the help of conical beam computed tomography before the intervention were determined after the intervention and skeletal values; It was determined that SNB angle, ANS-Me distance and upper airway distances had an effect on quality of life
