Özet (EN)

It is inevitable that gender inequality will emerge and effect women negatively in patriarchal societies where men are the decision maker and women are abedient. Cinema, as a mass communication field, is used as an important tool in order to maket he said inequality visible and to raise awareness in the society. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the perspective of Turkish cinema on gender inequality. In this context, 28 films determined by Turkey as Oscar Candidate Candidate between 1964-2021 were analyzed using the Bechdel Test. The test evaluates the films according to three criteria. There must be at least two female characters whose names are known in the film, these characters must be in dialogue with each other, and at least one of these dialogues must take place on a topic that is not related to men. The test questions the existence of women as individuals in fictional narratives, their communication with each other, and whether there are subjects other than men in the focus of this communication. The reason why the Oscar Nominee films were chosen as samples in the study is that these films were determined by competent committee to represent Turkish cinema in abroad.
