Abstract (EN)

Turkey is a country that provides a large part of its energy needs through imports. Renewable energy sources become important because of the energy dependency in Turkey and the disadvantages of using fossil fuels. The increment of investments and number of researches is increasing gradually, especially because of the high potential for renewable energies such as wind energy. In this study, wind energy potential as a consequence of the distribution of wind speed was studied in a region in the Osmaniye province, east of the Mediterranean Sea. Weibull and Rayleigh distribution methods which mostly used for this type of wind energy studies are investigated. This has resulted in a potential for wind energy which gives an idea of whether the area is suitable for the respective investments. The wind data is taken from the Wind measurement tower, which has a height of 80 m, including wind speed, wind direction and flow time in one year time period between January 2015 and December 2015. The graphical method is used to determine Weibull parameters. Hence k=1.95 and c=7.41 (m/s), averaged wind speed 7.6 (m/s) and averaged wind potential energy 444.85 (W/m2) are found.
