Investigation of aflatoxin passage from some peanuts produced in Osmaniye to peanut oil

In this research, peanuts without shells collected from different factories in Osmaniye that are not suitable for consumption in terms of shape, size and taste, and their oils produced with four different methods, solvent extraction, cold pressing, cold pressing of roasted peanuts and industrial application were tested for aflatoxins (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1 and AFG2) using HPLC method. According to results; the levels of AFB1 and AFB2 in peanuts were in the range of 41.59 - 221.8 µg/kg and 5.88 - 40.93 µg/kg, respectively. The levels of AFB1 and AFB2 in peanut oils derived from solvent extraction were in the range of 6.08 - 59.89 µg/kg and 0.99 -13.11 µg/kg, respectively. The amounts of AFB1 and AFB2 in oils derived from cold pressing of roasted peanuts were in the range of 6.63 - 85.09 µg/kg and 1.14 - 26.19 µg/kg, respectively. The amounts of AFB1 and AFB2 in peanut oils derived from cold pressing method were in the range of 10.51 - 88.67 µg/kg and 1.66-30.05 µg/kg, respectively. However, AFB1 and AFB2 were not detected in peanut oils derived from industrial application. Further more, AFG1 and AFG2 were not found in peanuts and peanuts oils. The levels of aflatoxins in peanuts and peanuts oil except for oils derived from industrial applications were found to above legal limits of Turkish Food Codex. The highest migration of AFB1 and AFB2 from peanuts to its oil was in cold pressing method (AFB1: %40, AFB2: %69), followed by cold pressing of roasted peanuts (AFB1: %35, AFB2: %62). The lowest migration of AFB1 and AFB2 from peanuts to its oil was in solvent extraction method (AFB1: %29, AFB2: %35), while no migration of aflatoxins in industrial application method (AFB1: %0, AFB2: %0).
