Abstract (EN)
Nuri Demirağ was born in Divriği District of Sivas. After his father's death, he spent his childhood with his mother. Nuri was a hardworking and intelligent student. He applied for the civil service exam conducted by the Agricultural Bank and won this exam. He served first in Kangal and then in Zara district. Nuri Bey, who continued in his post in Istanbul in the following years, rose to the position of financial inspector. He resigned from his profession in 1918 with the increase in the flooding of minorities in Istanbul, which was the capital when we arrived in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire. After Nuri Bey resigned from his position as a civil servant, he entered the business of manufacturing cigarette paper with a sum of money that he earned in 1918. He called the cigarette paper he produced "Turkish victory". After this work, where Nuri Bey gained experience, he took the railway tenders to the amounts and made a lot of money from the railway business with the policy of prioritizing the Turks in the tenders that the state would make for the development of domestic capital during the Republican period. Because of his achievements in the construction of Railways, he was given the surname "Demirag" by Atatürk. Nuri Demıragmadeinvestments in linewiththeneeds of thecountrywiththemoney he earnedfromtheconstruction of therailway. After a lot of constructionwork, he startedTurkey'sfirstcivilaviationbyenteringintoinvestments in thefield of Aviation, which is imaginary. ItproducedTurkish-madeaircraftonlywithitsowncapital. He alsoestablishedschoolstotrainpilotsandengineersfromTurkishyouthandprovidedtraining of manyengineersandpilots in theseschools. Later, Demirag, unabletogetthesupport he wantedfromthestate, wasdraggedintobankruptcy. Many of his investments, whosepropertybelongedto his ownperson, werenationalized. Afteralltheseevents, DemiragwasthrownintopoliticsbyfoundingtheNational Development Party. Thus, forthefirst time in Turkey, multi-party life wasstarted. Demirag, whocould not achievethesuccess he wanted in theelections he entered, waselected as a deputyfromtheDemocraticParty in lateryears. Demirag, whodefendedthe liberal economy in his political life, has done a lot of work on thisissue. Nuri Demırag, whodied on 13.11.1957, passed on Turkishhistory as an importantexample of an entrepreneur.
