Abstract (EN)

Wahhabism; For Muslims who claim to bring a new interpretation to Islam; It is an important movement for the Ottomans in that the geography where it was born, developed and grew up was connected to the Ottoman Empire. It is also very important that it be examined by someone who witnessed the early period of the sect with its religious and scientific identity. Therefore, Trabzonlu Mehmet Efendi's work, which is the subject of our thesis, constitutes a good example of how Ottoman scholars reacted to this movement in the first place. In this respect, it is a sad situation that researchers, and especially those working on the history of sects, have remained unaware of this work, which Trabzonlu Mehmet Efendi wrote in line with his observations and scientific knowledge. In this study, the Wahhabism movement will be defined, the emergence of the movement and the conditions of the period will be mentioned, the life of Muhammad bin Abdülvehhab will be mentioned, the local reactions to the movement and the first rejections will be stated, the comments of the Ottoman scholars will be included, then the life of Trabzonlu Mehmet Efendi will be mentioned and his rejection of Wahhabism will be mentioned. The publication, translation and review of his work called 'l-Vâridât will be discussed.
